Wait…you’re saying from the wild fires the ground is too hot and the water evaporates instead of soaking into the soil, or that the ground is damaged from the fires and it won’t allow the rain to soak in.
This is a new concept to me so I’m curious how that works exactly. Either way I can see how mudslides could easily happen as a result.

It's that the ground won't absorb the rainfall, and that causes flash flooding and mudslides.

That makes a whole lot of sense, I was confused how the soil can flash flood so easily, but science tell us that if the soil has become hydrophobic, then it’s the result of the burnt plant matter releasing chemicals that solidify once they reach the surface and form a waxy like substance at the top layer. The same thing happens if you add water to ash, while most of it will shrink down, what is left creates a slippery paste.
So question #2 is there anything you guys do in those areas (till/scar/aerate the ground) so the slides arent so bad?

That, and imagine pouring a bucket of water onto the forest floor when it's covered with pine needles, leaves and various plants. Then imagine doing the same thing to bare soil. That water will run right off in comparison. And, with no live active root systems in place, there is nothing to keep the soil from shifting.

You can’t mess with any of that prior to your emission inspection? For fear of throwing a possible code or the inspector will see the modifications?

Too hot to reset the drive cycle stuff.
I had to do it early in the morning, and i really don't want to do it again.

I also like to pull the negative battery lead when doing anything with wiring.
Less likely to damage something etc.

You don’t want a rental. Trust me on this. Nobody ever say those words. Please…please for the love of all things holy don’t ever rent a house to someone and if you can help it don’t ever rent from someone. Bad idea. Bad bad idea. I will burn the next house to the ground before I consider renting it to someone. At least insurance will pay out better than a resale will after having renters. And burnt to the ground will look better than the paint and flooring job done by the renters. Any work for that matter…

My parents have a rental, good to have someone else pay the mortgage for you while it builds equity.

Yes some renters suck, like the time that one renter decided to remove a fruit tree with out checking with us first.

My dad brought that thing back from japan, it was a gift from a dear friend.

He was not happy, nope not happy.

Good news is my house came with one, a Japanese pear tree.

Some enterprising person in NV or OR should come up with a business model whereby they sell a quarter acre of worthless land to CA residents so they can establish residency to bypass all the crap. Here in SC, we see LOTS of NC registrations because NC car taxes are lower. I know one person who's lived here for 12 years, and hasn't changed their out-of-state plates (ID) yet. It can't be that hard to fool 'em.

It can't be that hard to fool 'em.

There were a lot of Washington residents who used to do that. I’m not sure how they found out but I heard they started writing tickets for not registering their vehicles in the state they resided.
