For a very long time we had a cabin in Lake Tahoe on the NV side and our primary residence in CA. During that time, all our vehicles were always registered in NV and I had a NV drivers license the whole time. We never had an issue with that setup.

We did move our permanent residence to NV (and had no property in CA for a time) and had a real knock down drag-out fight over CA income tax when we filed as NV residents. CA is very aggressive when it comes to taxes they believe you owe them.

You should visit Colorado and see what kind of speeds you can achieve on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon (yes, those are the Eastbound lanes to the left of the guardrail in the center):

Drove that road last October when we did our road trip. I came from Moab Utah to Ft Morgan Colorado.

We passed through just after you had the freak snow storm. I believe if we would've been one day earlier, we would've been stuck because it was closed.

Edit:Here are few pics. October 27, 2020. That was officially the dirtiest my truck had or has ever been

Ok. That makes a whole lot of sense, I was confused how the soil can flash flood so easily, but science tell us that if the soil has become hydrophobic, then it’s the result of the burnt plant matter releasing chemicals that solidify once they reach the surface and form a waxy like substance at the top layer. The same thing happens if you add water to ash, while most of it will shrink down, what is left creates a slippery paste.
So question #2 is there anything you guys do in those areas (till/scar/aerate the ground) so the slides arent so bad?

When it's not too steep terrain they can dump mulch on the ground for some protection. But this washout is too steep for most of that. See the video for a drone flight back into the canyon.

So you can read it but not change it?
The way Whipple sends it to you, you cant see anything.
Once its written to the vehicle, its just a regular calibration that can be read as if it were OEM.
So you have to jump through an extra hoop, but you can view and edit as you please just like normal once you pull copy it from the car.

Oh well that's no problem, easy. Kinda like my BB tune that's written using EFI Live which isn't compatible with HPT. I just downloaded it with HPT and was able to change things.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if that was all it'd take. I was hoping though!
I've always heard stories that some tunes are locked, even on the vehicle, thankfully never had that issue though...might be one of those stories like pools changing colors when they get peed in.

I have heard that too, somebody said they can be password protected but I don't see how they can do that, afaik there's no way to lock it once it's installed in the vehicle. Maybe you can't just take the actual tune file and mod it until it's installed, IDK.

I heard that too, I always wondered how that would work.
Now it makes more sense. :waytogo:

My main worry about getting a tune from someone else is if they could actually lock my ecu from further edits with hp tuners.
