Been a while so I thought I would post up on how its going.

So recently I've been wanting to add a little more sound to my system because the 8" shallowmount kicker isn't quite cutting it. I think the sub would be plenty loud enough in a small cab but since its all the way in the back of the car it kinda dies out all the way in the front. (just for laughs I'll turn the volume up and sit in the back and try to compare and there is a definite difference.)

I think my next move is going to be mounting a sub under my center console. I'm thinking about putting it in an enclosure below the cassette player and below the storage compartment.

Anyone know if there is anything in the way right there? I might pull it apart one weekend and see what I can think of.

But as of right now the idea is to mount the sub hidden away under the console and aiming towards the firewall. I think this setup would be hella sweet and would beat the shit outa paying $600 for a mount that takes up storage space in the front of the Kon.

When I get the time I'll try it and make a new thread with pics and instructions if it works.

Anyone have an opinion they would like to share?

Hey guys I was able to replace my factory sub in my 2001 Tahoe because it was severely blown. Most awful sound I've ever heard come from an audio system. The panel was a tiny bit a pain to remove but didn't have to struggle too long. The reason I believe it was a bit of a pain for me to remove is because I didn't want to have to remove all the other panels and I just partially removed the other panels but I would suggest just removing them because it's really not that hard. I partially removed the one by the passenger driver's side door pillar because that one is a pain to fully remove so I just got it enough to get the rear panel out from under it. Then remove the one by the complete rear pillar which is where the rear components are and just partially remove the rear hatch floor panel. You have 2 screws you will need to remove. One right there at the rear door panel and you have to unscrew the head that the rear net wraps on. Then just pull the rear sub panel off. I found a Rockville 8" sub (model W8T3-S2) off ebay that is specifically for shallow enclosures. It's only like 2 1/2 inches deep and fit in the factory enclosure no problem. It was a very decent price of $40. Now I would definitely recommend this particular sub because it fits in just perfectly with no modification needed. You don't even really have screw it in because with the rubber ring around the Rockville sub makes the sub fit very snug and tight in. Check the attached pic. But you can definitely put screws in there for extra security. Of course you will have to make new holes in the enclosure.

For the sound, it is definitely an upgrade from the factory sub. It puts out great sounds and the low comes out very clean. I chose not to screw mine in and I get not rattling or anything just good clean bass. Of course this is not going to shake anything but it is definitely a significant upgrade from the stock bass. I'm very pleased with sub.
