So since I have been bugging the guys in the lounge so much, I figured I would post correctly here. I am looking to upgrade my headers and cam. I am not very knowledgeable at this stuff so bare with me. I have found a few headers and for sure want long tubes, but am looking to see what other have done or suggestions.
Cams, I am in the dark on. I would rather have a more agressive idle and really looking for something to benefit acceleration.
My ultimate goal is to be in the 12's in the quarter mile. Now a supercharger is way down the road but this is my next step.
Ideas, suggestions, thoughts are all appreciated.

I've done a little research before I decided it was more than I wanted to spend. But for the cam swap on 6.0 and 5.3 engines, it requires afm/vvt delete. From what I was seeing was an additional 1000 bucks (installed) on top of the cam and header swap ($2200).

Now if you are doing the install yourself, I'm sure that you can get the cost way down!

Good luck!

Tuning the afm out is not a problem, justin from blackbear can turn that off for me.
I would probably try the headers myself, and have someone do the cam. Just looking for models, brands, or recommendations of what type of headers and cam.

Keanan is correct, you would have to delete the DOD/AFM all together and remove it completely.
This is one of the many kits available http://www.texas-speed.com/p-717-dod-afm-delete-kit.aspx
This is some good reading if you're mechanically inclined and are willing to do it yourself. Its long but well worth the time. It also has a list of all parts necessary for the swap.

Don't let this stuff intimidate you, its only nuts and bolts hah. Keep track of everything take pictures and you'll be good.

5.3 Cam info, one of many.

im actually just about to do the same upgrade im starting with exhaust first because to upgrade your cam requires alotta work and the engine needs to be pulled aas well as most of yer valve train needs to be changed out lifters valves pushrods valvesprings rocker arms springs also depending on the cam you get you need to consider a higher stall speed torque converter 2400 to 3200 rpm
im going with tthe long tube headers first with an offroad y pipe then from there back some sort of flowmaster kit im going without cats becuase i just paid for two years on my tags also there is an 02 simulator kit or tune will fix the 02 sensor code
dont bother with short tubes heads you might as well keep your factory headers
also for the love of christ dont waste money on a dam cold air intakes they arent worth the plastic there made out of for now the factory is the best yer gonna get untill you start doing major mods onyer moter

Why do you think you need to pull the engine just to do cam, lifters, springs?
you can do all of that with the engine in the truck.
