Someone take your man card away? That's just silly thinking there. Go on vacation and if she breaks, climb into another and continue on your way.

If you are really worried about your valve springs, put on a set of dual springs yourself and forget about them ever breaking. You are letting yourself be held hostage by "what if" hysteria.

Ticking time bombs, you don't even know what Pete and I and the rest of us face with these junkers. At 160K our oil pump o-rings fail and our motors lose oil pressure. At 165K our transmissions go out. Our timing chains are only rated for 200k miles and let's not talk about the airbags that go off and cut your face in half. I'm at 159,9XX miles Steve and if I had to drive to California tomorrow I would load the family up and not care one whit about any of that. You know why?
Pay $65,000.00 cash for one of these new 2021 Tahoes with all the issues ( recalls and 90+ TSBs) and let us know how ya feel. Until then go troll on your old 2009 Tahoe forum.

They could have just had a bad batch go thru Heat Treat.. just a bad lot. Since things like springs aren’t serialized, they have to consider the whole lot suspect. Sure it’s not great, but I wouldn’t cancel my life over it. I would require that they be changed under warranty at a mutually agreeable time..
If nothing has happened to you so far... certainly not lawyer worthy.....
In Michigan legal fees are covered by the automaker under the Lemon Law. Since my Tahoe already exceeded the 30 day out of service clause they would be flat out stupid to refuse the buyback. If they do refuse they will pay much more in the long run once the case is settled :)

Ah, I see, so your cash and feelings are worth more than mine huh? Well, maybe you're right. I don't all emotional about stuff like that. There's no profit in it.

I always get emotional about a $65k purchase that does not live up to what was promised. I have no idea what the OP has gone thru already with the time the rig has spent in the dealership shop. I choose to give the benefit of the doubt with info already supplied. Buying a brand new rig and laying out $65k and then planning a trip in that new rig to then have the rig and plans of trip possibly blow up because of something that the manufacturer messed up on, is emotional, IMO. Expressing that emotion here on this forum, where open minds are supposed to be and have been bragged about by members here based off of other closed minded forums, might make me a bit defensive as well. No one here knows EVERYTHING that the OP has been thru with this rig.

Sorry to hear about OP's troubles. This has put me on the sidelines until the end of the year. I was really keen on ordering a loaded Duramax Escalade. Sounds like they rushed into production, combined with COVID issues makes for a tough and unreliable roll out. OP has a point re: family, sometimes going on a solo trip with an unreliable car is very different than one with family in tow (the latter, more stressful obviously).

This doesn’t have a thing to do with the Duramax....

Also has been resolved. Only applies for pre-october 7th production.

2 urban legends in Detroit

1 never buy phase 1 year 1 of a new model

2 never buy a car produced after the lunch break, on a Monday or a Friday

My brother works for Ford Motor Company as an assembly line worker in Claycomo, Mo. north of the river from KC, Mo. He has told me that if anyone can decipher it down to what day a rig is built, stay away from a Friday built rig.

I will be replacing mine with the same LT Tahoe but with the Duramax asap. I am confident Arlington and GM have worked out the early assembly issues that many of us early unit buyers faced. I figure if I have to go through this process again I might as well get the diesel :) Just not a happy camper that GM has not notified all the customers affected by this valve spring issue. More and more of these are popping up across all the V8 models. I think a recall will be issued soon but since i have the ability with our Lemon law to bail on my tahoe I am going to do it. Not real wild about having so much shop time on our new rig. Even with 945 miles on the odometer it feels like it is used and I have had it for years. My Honda Pilot is 8 years old and the only trip to the dealer was for the airbag recall. I sure wish Honda would make a body on frame large SUV :)

Kinda wish I was in your shoes. Mine has seen the service department 5 times in 6 months (would have been 6 times if I didn't get Covid). I have over 7500 miles now and have yet to experience a no-go situation. Just recalls and cosmetic repairs. Not fun scheduling service every month. My hope is that GMC Customer Cares steps up and at least increases my warranty. It was not put together well at all and I'm at the point where I'm going to try and correct the cosmetic issues myself. Just would like to have the reassurance of an extended warranty when the big items DO occur.
