i agree with chip, make more HP. ADD A turbo or a supercharger keep gears the same. Do that and you can attain 160mph hwy easy... cause you are geared perfect. thus me saying get a stall higher, and get a cam, that makes more average torque and hp.

Dude, I was thinking the same thing. I recently found out that I have 3.42's on my 4.8L

After a lot of thought, the truth is we both have good enough gearing, we just need to up the power/torque output. Otherwise you'll end up hating the highway. I have my bike geared down like that, and if it weren't so damn fun, I'd hate riding on highway with it. The highway will INSTANTLY turn a geared vehicle into a gas HOG! No matter how efficient it may have been in the past. It's much harder on the engine internals too.

My conclusion has been to increase torque output first, then take it from there. Keep me posted as to what you end up doing. Maybe we can help each other. (FYI: A cam might be the smartest first step.)

Yeah, ive been doing alot of asking people i know that have hot rods and are very knowledgeable to this and most say just leave it, good mpg and good for road trips. On the freeway truck is fine, not a problem. Downshifts and goes. Its just taking off from a stop bugs me. (having nothing but sports cars has spoiled me) I was just thinking about not really needing gears, but more torque, this morning on the way to work. Which like you said, i think is the big killer right now. And w/ gas going up and down, i dont really want to loose to much mpg, but in a other way dont care, have to pay for it anyway regardless of what i do.

My plans honestly are to get a procharger or supercharger for it. I love the fact of something no one expects to be fast, is fast. But that kind of money isnt in the books anytime soon for me. First, i am wanting to get a lq9 like Hoe has. Seen a couple of those blocks for sale local.

I'll keep you updated. Let me know if you do anything to help it out.

Responded above somewhat. But thats what im thinking, more torque. Wouldnt mind adding your engine, couple of them for sale locally. That might fix the problem. ha ha . turbo, would love that also, but keeping up w/ it everyday and for a daily i dont know. SC. or procharger is what i would like torque on demand. but expensive.

Im still thinking of the converter but a few of my friends are telling me no, just get gears, but i like to get all my info first before i do anything.

So in all still searching, but also keep em coming on options i have. Taking them all into consideration.

So far you guys say a cam (what kind, i know nothing on cams, but learning) and a stall

yep, you dont need a big cam at all. something in the 208/212 duration or similar, still with a mandatory stall of 3200 rpm. A stall converter multiply the torque, which is what you need. Sometimes, a stall can shave a full second off a vehicle. You need to visit Yank website see what they have.

a smaller cam will develop more average torque, the stock cam duration is like 196* or something like, that... take my word for it, it makes more average torque than the bigger cams. But a bit bigger you can have tremendous increase in midrange and top end power.

My engine is AWESOME. And virtual have under 70k miles on it. Im actually going to turbo charger my truck sooner than later. For an additional 130 HORSE POWER!

Well between both of you guys, and hoe, ive been following your threads, sounds like i may just look into a stall. Need to call chris/david and see what they say.

Small cam may be looked into also, just have to see how everything goes at the moment. under 70k must not drive it too much.

yea, it was a low mileage pull out. But in your case, I would do a 6.2l gen 4 swap into the hoe. Thats what Im itching to do too.

Go for it. Either should work just as well.

Let's see some pics of these hot rods your boys have! Here's a little bit of what I've done:

not at all, since your planing on swaping do it now!the 6.2 can easily drop in, with engine mount adapters, and a reluctor converter box for the crank sensors, a few lil modifications, and computer tune. Your good to go. Plenty info about swap on PT.net
