Random just means it hasnt defined the cylinder its missing from yet, one of the downfalls of a v shaped engine is that 2 cylinders fire almost at the same time. So it needs to find the specific miss.

so it went from missing on number 5 to now a random misfire only.

Question, looks like I'm missing one bolt on #6 coil , do you happen to know what size is that, is it m6 or m8???

I did a bit of a test today. I opened my scan tool, Opened misfire menu, Rev up engine to 3700 rpm, and let go gas. It showed just once misfire on 7, 5,8,1. I bought just 2 coils blue streak, installed on 5,7 I had new delfy , so I used it on 1. The real pain is to get to #8. I definitely know that nobody changed coils on 8 and 6. Last time 8 spark replaced it was broken on a side or burned. And mechanic was cursing that engine and that engineer who made it. And he said that he did all his best, but could not guarantee that while he was pulling out socket, he might broke that spark again.
Ps. I think those boot protectors are doing something. After I did that job engine was rough , but I drove on highway for a bit, came back to Brooklyn and engine was way nicer than before. I'm guessing that I have leaking intake manifold too.

Still can't find replacement for my caddy, most of SUV and minivans are beaten up pretty much, you can't get nothing for budget of 25k.

from my experience when it's missing to the point of feeling it and setting codes the misfire numbers on the scanner will be steady counting up, not just a few here and there. but a almost constant counting. if you can get it to miss while driving with the scanner activatly on it. say with a passenger watching. don't run into someone trying to drive and watch lol. I do like the blue tooth phone apps ones for things like that. Just put the phone in the holder and go for a drive till it starts. then pull over and watch what's going on.

an intake leak will make the long term and short term o2 sensor trim crazy. good is around 5% plus or minus. if you're in the maxed out 15-20% you could definitely have some leak. if it's bad enough leak, it can definitely cause a lean missfire.

I've done the #8 plugs and wires on mine.. it's annoying but it's not that difficult with the right tools. laying across the engine is the worst part. I luckily have a top side creeper at work I can use. I honestly think your mechanic was just a hot head and likes easy jobs haha it definitely takes patiences. Just need the right combination of spark plug socket, small extension and flex head ratchet. the hybrid inverter is in the way thou compared to a normal truck. so I found it helpful to have the front plugs and wires off, so I could put one arm in thru the front and one down from the top to guide things.

there's some good youtube videos about getting to that back plug for normal trucks, but I don't know about the one where they pull the inner fender cover out. the hybrid stuff might make that harder.

sorry I didn't know the size of the bolt off the top of my head, I'd guess it's an m6 thou, cause m8 is a pretty big bolt, like the ones that hold the exhaust manifold on or a m8.

That's for a tip. I don't know what is going on with this truck but I gives me Stabilitrack again. I tried disconnecting battery wires for some period of time. But no avail. Can't wait to trade it in, before it would kill me. Once I had Stabilitrack service on 65mph. With all my family inside. I barely managed to avoid collision. I got no idea what is wrong now. I drove it yesterday it was fine, parked. And I got this thing now.

By some kind of reason I can't get 14 v. 9.9 through obd reader . System has not enough of boost. There's big energy drain in the system.

how old is the 12v battery? are the terminals clean and super tight? I've seen posts about these quick connect style battery cables not making good connection for people. you shouldn't be able to move them by hand at all when you try to twist them.

these things use the 12v battery in a weird way, since they don't crank the engine over, they can be what a normal truck would consider bad and wouldn't crank, but good enough to allow these to turn on. but cause other weird issues.

lotta times it will thru off the stability control when the miss fires happen. the computer figures it can't control the torque output of the engine correctly to manage it. so it turns it off so not to make it worse. I'm sure they didn't expect it to make you crash. that seems scary.

you definitely have a ghost in the machine at this point.

I'm sure it feels like a waste of money, but if the battery is say 3 years old or so, especially up in the cold where you are. it might be worth swinging by a Walmart and picking up a new 12v battery for it. clean the terminals really well and see how it does.

it might make no difference, it might solve everything. hard to say but 9v sounds like an issue. did you ever find that ground wire on the front of the driver's side cylinder head?

That ground wire was installed by me. Battery is 10 months old. Duralast bought in local AutoZone. I will try to throw some jump cables or some jump starter and try to boost that battery. If something like this happens just overnight it should be just one thing. But it happened on Christmas, c'mon. Frankly speaking I'm really happy that there is no street cleaning today I can keep it on a street till Friday, the worst thing is that I can go to dealerships anymore till I fix my Cadillac.
I tried to clean battery terminals with some Sand paper as well as cable terminals. God knows what is wrong with it. So far I pretty sure that vehicle starts, as long as I try to hit brake pedal I got notice to Service Brakes. I will try to boost up battery and hope for the best.

huh. yeah, the 9v seems low, but if the battery is new that kinda rules that out. it if an actual CAN BUS Communications faul, which with such random codes like the power windows lost memory it could well be. that's very hard to trouble shoot and repair yourself without experience and the correct high level scanners and wiring diagram software. which leads me to ground being the only hope of a eazy fix.

i did finally get a chance to get a pic of the ground cable block attachment point that seems to be a pretty common problem with all these year trucks, not just the hybrid ones and especially up north. it's a pretty big deal as it's the block and driver side coil pack ground point, this pic is looking straight down from the #1 plug front drivers side. it's worth taking off and cleaning if you haven't even thou I know you've made one. I keep coming back to grounds cause I've seen them do so many random things.
